Jack and the Beanstalk

                                                                                                                                           

                                                       

 

Jack's mum wants to sell his cow… for cash not beans. But Jack has other ideas. Will Jack escape from the Giant's castle? Will he get the Golden Hen? Only Sitara has the answers….

Sitara combines table top puppetry and live action with its usual mix of magic, music and fun.  Puppets and masks by John Barber; written, directed and performed by Emma Davies with the Sitara team.

‘Jack and the Beantstalk’ has an Early Years and Primary version - for 3-5 year olds or 5-11 year olds; for 50-80 children.  Your students will have the sense of occasion of visiting a theatre while you will have the security of knowing only your staff and students will be in attendance.

Sitara offers Shakespeare to your school using their usual dynamic approach.  Following a drama workshop with a brief look at status and verse, Emma Davies leads the students through the dark tale of a good king gone bad.  With a bone-chilling soundtrack and set, costumes and shadow puppets designed by John Barber, this interactive story-telling will be an unforgettable introduction to the great English playwright.  Performed by the Sitara Team and your students…….

CINDERELLA

                                                           

A Fairy Godmother; a wicked stepmother; a handsome prince! All the ingredients for a perfect fairytale – just add some Sitara magic.

Fairy Fifi weaves a tale of romance and fun, as Deloris, the impossibly glamorous stepmother, and her delightful dog, Didi, try and snag the prince for themselves. Can Cinderella and her best friend, Ronald he Rat, find their way to a happy ending?

As always, John Barber’s puppets and masks make this show a visual spectacle not to be missed.  Music, mayhem and Sitara’s unique interactive approach will delight children and adults alike.

SITARA SHADOW PUPPETRY WORKSHOPS

                       

Sitara brings its shadow puppet workshop to your premises. This workshop is for 25-40 students. Sitara provides all materials for the shadow puppet making session.

A shadow puppet show written and directed by Emma Davies; shadow puppets designed by John Barber.

This year Sitara offers Rapunzel, the classic fairytale of a girl locked in a tower by a witch. But who is the real baddie in the story? Witch Wendy tells her version of the story. Sitara offers its usual combination of puppets, music and laughter with the magic of live performance. (Approx 25 minutes)

A demonstration of how shadow puppets work and are operated and a discussion about shadows, light, dark, transparent materials etc (Approx 15 minutes)

Students make their own shadow puppets and get the chance to operate them. (Approx 45 minutes)

ALADDIN

                 

How will Aladdin escape from the cave? Can he rescue the princess in time?
Madam Mona tells her hilarious version of this classic Arabic tale.  Set in the distant land of China, we watch as Aladdin meets an evil sorceror, releases a powerful genie and marries the girl of his dreams.  But the course of true love never does run smooth…….

With puppets and masks by John Barber, its unique interactive approach and the usual combination of music, magic and madness, Sitara once again offers a quality theatre experience to the children of Cairo. The whole audience is invited to help Madam Mona, while a handful of young audience members are asked to become characters in the play, working alongside professional performers and puppeteers.

Pre-school version – aimed at 3-5 year olds – 1 hour with interval
Primary version – aimed at 5-11 year olds – 1½  hours with intervals

SLEEPING BEAUTY

              

Witch Wanda is furious when she doesn’t get invited to the princess’ birthday party!  Watch as she and her cat Walter gatecrash the celebrations and cast a spell that will last for over 100 years.  Will Sleeping Beauty ever wake up?  Will the Prince ever make it through the forest?

Sitara, Cairo’s first interactive English Theatre in Education for children, offers its audience a unique experience.  With an amazing blend of puppets and masks, music and lights, together with all the magic of theatre, Billy the Royal messenger tells his hilarious version of this classic fairytale.  Everyone is invited to help Billy, while a handful of young audience members are asked to become characters in the play, working alongside performers and puppeteers.    

Written and directed by Emma Davies; puppets, masks, costume and set design by acclaimed UK based design artist John Barber.
